What are the benefits of family dentistry?
In addition to treating all members of your family, a family dentist typically provides complete preventive and restorative care and just about any dental service or procedure any member of your family might need.
A family dentist can address your oral health at all stages of life. A good family dentist offers in a wide range of dental services, from dental cleanings and fillings to more specialized procedures such as crowns and bridges, sealants, tooth replacement, and more.
You need a good family dentist if you and your family require complete preventive and restorative dental care along with certain cosmetic procedures to enhance the beauty of your smiles. Family dentistry is essentially all-around, comprehensive dental care for people of all ages, from children to older adults.

Any adult who wants a comfortable, high-quality, long-lasting replacement that looks and feels more like their natural teeth.
Your decision depends on several factors, including your budget, your quantity of healthy jawbone tissue, your timeline and your personal comfort level with wearing the alternative: full or partial dentures. You can also replace a single missing tooth with a dental bridge costing much less than an implant and requiring just a few office visits. The dental implant process can take several months to allow gum healing after an implant post is placed and before a restoration can be added.
Yes, but the cost of individual implants can be prohibitive if you are on a budget. Less costly alternatives include implant-supported dentures that allow complete upper and lower jaw teeth replacement using fewer implanted posts. For example, an implant-supported denture for the upper or lower jaw might only require 4 to 6 actual implants instead of 14 to 16 separate implants. The most common option to dental implants is full or partial removable dentures, which typically cost considerably less.
Dental implants, unlike removable dentures, provide a more natural, more stable biting and chewing experience. Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth. Unlike dentures, which allow bone tissue to resorb or shrink (which can alter your facial appearance), dental implants help preserve bone tissue in your jaw. What’s more, dental implants never need root canals, drilling or fillings.
If you brush and floss regularly and receive dental check-ups every 6 months, the implant screw itself can last a lifetime. The crown or restoration, however, typically lasts 10 to 15 years before it may need a replacement due to wear and tear.
One of the most popular ways to improve your smile is with veneers. Porcelain veneers or laminates are thin, translucent shells that cover the front-facing surfaces of the teeth. This preserves as much of the natural tooth structure as possible. Porcelain veneers can correct crowding or spacing problems, restore fractured or worn teeth, cover staining and discoloration and replace composite bonding. Teeth whitening or bleaching can make teeth many shades whiter, either right here in our office with our cosmetic dentist, or with our professional-strength take-home teeth whitening kits.
Since the goal of cosmetic dentistry is to create a beautiful, healthy and functional smile, the answer is a definite yes. Having a beautiful smile will not only bring you positive attention and compliments, you will be perceived as more attractive and successful, regardless of your other physical characteristics.
Almost everyone can receive dental implants provided that they have a sufficient amount of bone tissue in their jaws to anchor the implants securely with long-term stability.
You never get a second chance to make a good first impression. According to American Dental Association, half the population values a nice smile above all else on first impressions. People with a healthy beautiful smile are generally perceived as being more attractive and successful, regardless of their other physical characteristics. A nice smile gives you a better chance of getting a job. Cosmetic dentistry creates a beautiful, healthy and functional smile.
If you don’t like the idea of wearing bulky metal braces along with all those wires and brackets, then this state-of-the-art teeth-straightening method is perfect for you. Invisalign is a set of clear, comfortable aligners. Invisalign is virtually invisible, so it’s perfect for people who are self-conscious about wearing braces. What’s more, Invisalign is easily removable. Why bother with traditional metal brackets and wires when you can have clear braces? If you’re looking to straighten your teeth discreetly, Invisalign treatment is perfect for you. Invisalign for teens or adults is the new and comfortable way to achieve beautiful smiles.
For best teeth-straightening results, we recommend wearing Invisalign aligners for 22 hours per day. Invisalign must be removed during meals and personal hygiene care such as brushing and flossing.
Essentially, it’s dentistry specifically for children and teens provided by a dentist who understands childhood dental development, starting from around age 3. Early pediatric dentistry for children helps us detect the earliest stages of tooth decay, when it is most easily treatable. Early detection is critical to maintain oral health, correct bad habits and provide any needed treatment.
The best dental care for children can be provided by a pediatric dentist or a family dentist experienced and trained in children’s dental development. At Pennington Family Dentistry, we also help parents with information about preventive home care, brushing, flossing, thumb sucking and preventing injuries. Dr. Ana P. Hoffman also provides diet counseling and information on childhood growth and dental development.
